Six week course, Thursday afternoons, 1.30-4.30pm, led by Rachel Kerslake.
During the Creative Discovery course, you will be guided to explore your unique art style and artist voice by experimenting with different mediums, materials and techniques. You will create a variety of reference materials and creative content that will form of personal library of ideas, sketches, studies and reflections. The final session will be dedicated to compiling the materials into coherent journals to guide your ongoing creative process. When you complete the course, you will have your own artistic reference library that you can use to inspire future art projects.
This course is not about creating finished pieces of art, but is designed to provide a safe and supportive space where you can step out of your creative comfort zone and explore new directions. This course is suitable for creating reference material for any art form, not just painting.
Week 1: Introduction to artist voice and reference materials – understand how to develop your own artist voice means and explore different ways to generate reference materials (sketches, studies, inspirations).
Week 2: Exploring materials and techniques – experiment with different materials and techniques to create a diverse body of reference material.
Week 3: Developing personal themes and visual storytelling – focus on exploring and developing personal themes, stories, and concepts in visual form.
Week 4: Abstract exploration – experiment with abstracting your sketches and studies to create reference material that focuses on ideas and telling stories, rather than literal representation.
Week 5 Refining and organising reference material – begin refining and selecting the reference material. Start finalising your content and organising the visual library for the final sketchbook.
Week 6 Compiling the creative journal – finalise the reference library and compile the most successful work into a creative journal or sketchbook for future use.
